Seeing Differently
When I began knitting in 1977, I did it to create functional garments rather than art. When I began art school in 2007, my advisor, Lida Gordon, said that I should consider using knitting as my art; a gift of vinyl-coated polyester yarn helped me see how that could be. I now see knitting not only as an art form in itself but as a material to use in other forms of art such as assemblage. Any material is fair game for knitting as long as it behaves like a piece of string.
